The Story
The Birth of a Legend
In 1951, Max Schubert returned from a study tour of Bordeaux with an audacious vision: to create an Australian wine that could rival the great wines of Europe. Working in secret after Penfolds management ordered him to stop production, Schubert persevered with what would become Grange Hermitage. Those early 'hidden' vintages from 1957-1959 are now among the most valuable wines in the world.
